This is great.

Alternative solution for Long Point Parking

Summer 2010
STEP 1 – add signs about current parking that is available at provincial park camp site along causeway and Erie blvd. Visitors are not aware about the day parking at the camp
STEP 2 – analyze if signage has helped

Summer 2011
STEP 3 - depending on 2010 results proceed to other solutions if needed,

Houses and cars are quite expensive and not everybody is able to buy it. But, loan are invented to aid different people in such kind of situations.

If the happy go lucky beachgoers, who come with full coolers and leave garbage behind,(they really don't add much to the local economy) really cared about safe parking and passage to the beach they would pay the $13.00 to park in a safe area and not have the rest of Long Pointers looking out after them. Where are the garbage cans, the beach cleaners, the beach patrol people ?? (Oh, did I mention the washrooms?) Who is policing the drinking and the antics that go on..Give me a break...for all the taxes we pay here I think we should have and expect a little more bang for our buck...Yeah, the beachgoers may pay taxes also but they get a lot more in return...Sounds like L.P. is going to Hell in a Handbasket!! What's your thoughts????

We certainly want people to enjoy themselves but the situation with the Erie St Parking for beachgoers is an accident waiting to happen...We do not want to see a child or anyone getting out in traffic from that narrow shoulder into the path of oncoming traffic...Lets face it we have had too much exposure too soon and our infrastructure cannot handle it...Please have proper signs leading the overflow vehicles to the safe parking in the park...$10. or $13. is a small price to pay for security.....

First off I would like to say its nice seeing other people's comments! I was getting lonely!

The following is a staff memo contained in the NC council information package for the regular council meeting held May 25. This $8,107. is in addition to the $5,000. allocated for public education, signage and minor shoulder gravel (the complete report is shown on the LPRA website) I do not believe the $5,000. includes NC road crew salaries, who worked for approximately a week on this new and improved road shoulder.

Yes indeed, we should be grateful. Garbage receptacles at all the public access points to the beach, brimming with goodies to feed all the homeless racoons until garbage pick up day.

Not to mention all our "visitors" to LP who will be trespassing on cottage property along Erie Blvd.as there is nothing better than a short-cut to the beach. Met some visitors last weekend trespassing at my cottage! Still trying to figure out what NC plans on having these visitors use when "Mother Nature" calls! Certainly not Lake Erie! Maybe Johnny Go's?

Before you know it, the entire stretch along Erie Blvd. and Woodstock Ave will consist of tall fences to keep these visitors out. Then the entire Long Point allure will have gone to .... in a handbasket. All because these visitors could not afford a $13.00 fee to enjoy a day at the beach campground, where parking, bathroom and garbage facilities already exist! Its going to be a mess! (please see below) ....

Re: Long Point Garbage Collection
A the last Council in Committee meeting staff were directed to review the cost to collect garbage for an enhanced program which included collection on weekends and at the ten beach accesses in Long Point.
Currently staff collects garbage from 8 to 10 garbage cans located at the parking lot on Abigail Becker Parkway. These pickups are usually done on every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday starting late May to late September. On three of the long weekends staff will do an additional garbage run on the Sunday in Long Point. Recyclables are currently not collected. As we do not have facilities to locate a dumpster in the Long Point area garbage is taken to the Port Rowan Community Centre. This dumpster is then picked up each week by a contractor.
Staff have discussed a number of options on how we may increase the service in a cost efficient way but it could take some time to finalize arrangements or formalize agreements with other potential partners. The following is staff’s estimate of the cost to enhance the existing service.
Wages Student 24 hours x15 weeks plus mandatory benefits and 4% vacation pay
$4,244.00
Truck Cost
$2,835.00
Extra Lift Garbage Dumpster – Norfolk Disposal – currently in Port Rowan
$1,028.00
Total
$8,107.00
This estimate is for garbage pick-up only and does not include the introduction of a recycling program. Should Council make the decision to go ahead with the enhanced garbage program a budget amendment would be required to increase the current Langton Parks Budget for 2010.

Has anyone seen the new Private Lane "Compound"? Looks like all the trees that were removed from the Long Point Motel site last November and December, have now been recycled into fence boards! If you want to see the end result please stop by. The newly erected fence is 8ft. in height. Apparently there is no height restriction for fencing in a resort such as Long Point. After all, most people who own property at the Point normally go for relaxation and to enjoy the view so what is the big deal? The view at this site has now disappeared. Wood fencing rules! I actually think a wrought iron gate is in order to make this "project" complete. The cottage owners behind this new fencing could apply for day passes and the gatekeeper in charge could charge a small fee for allowing them out?

It is now open season for property owners at Long Point who wish to build a fence. I am going out today and buying 10 ft. fence boards to build my fence at the back of my property. I am sure the property owners behind me will totally understand? Before you know it Long Point will look identical to residential settings such as Simcoe. Oh no, wait! They have fence height restrictions to protect their citizens.

I really think that the "New Signage" into Long Point will not point out the so called additional parking spaces....but that it will read "Welcome to Fort Apache"...or was that Stockade City...well in any event the recycled trees are really making a comeback!!! Just how does any emergency vehicle make it to an emergency there if called??? "There otta be a law",,,oh wait, maybe there is one??????? Gee Twsp. get a grip!!!

Very good observation "S". Perhaps this "Fort Apache" will be the last straw and the natives alias property owners at Long Point will finally understand what is in our future unless there is a stop put to all this nonsense! I can feel an uprising coming... We must keep in mind that the municipal elections will be held this Fall and Long Point must send a very strong message to the Twsp. Perhaps then they will get a grip! Better late than never!

After 50 yrs down in the Point my Head is still Shaking!! Who would have thunk?? Our peaceful, away from it all lifestyle,is being exploited ....Not to my liking for sure.(but that is my opinion )..Something has to go..perhaps an overhall at the Ivory Tower in Simcoe would be in order...This is one of the highest taxed areas in all the county and we are being subjected to things that most of us do not want...8' fences...make really bad neighbours...24 hr. lighting systems..bad for the environment not to mention trying to sleep..Can we not get back to just having our own relaxing time without someone trying to make the almight buck "in the name of deveopment"??? There are other areas here that are dependent on tourist $$$...we pay enuf here in L.P. to forego that. Push Pt. Rowan and St. Williams..they may need it..Our family cottage here is a sanctuary away from all of the Touristity traps..Thats why we bought it and love it...Truly a l.P. Lover

There are a few garbage cans at the beach entrances now, but what about where the new parking on the north side of Erie Blvd is? There has been an increase in garbage everywhere. Beside the marsh, everything from Tim Horton cups to broken beach toys. This is destroying and killing the bisophere and endangered speices. Does this parking go against the endangered species act?

Where are the signs noting that there is parking and washrooms at the provincial park?
Can we have this signs posted on the Causeway?
